The set of photo-etched brass parts in 1:35 scale from the Czech maker Hauler is cut exactly for the kit of the passenger car given in the name of the product. It is not a model but an accessory for someone who already has the kit and wants to take it beyond the level of the contents of the box. On civilian cars photo-etch comes into its own in different places than on tanks - on the radiator grille, the frames, the wipers, the door handles and the small fittings, where plastic parts necessarily win over the real subject in thickness.
The Citroen 11CV, known as the Traction Avant, was a French passenger car with front-wheel drive and a unitary body, produced from the middle of the 1930s. The combination of a low floor, front-wheel drive and a stiff body was advanced for its day, and the car stayed in production after 1945 as well. During the war it was driven across occupied Europe in civilian and official roles alike, so it has a wide use in a diorama.
A civilian car will take far fewer faults in its surface than a mud-covered tank - so sand the areas of the body carefully and spray a primer, and only then the paint. With photo-etch the usual procedure holds: separate the parts on glass or a hard surface, mark the bends first and then pull them tight, and glue with super glue in the slightest of doses. Chrome trims and frames can be dealt with by a glossy silver applied over a smooth glossy ground. A final gloss varnish makes a more faithful impression on a passenger car than a matte one; just let it harden properly.
The set completes a kit; it is not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
