Kitchen equipment for dioramas, the first volume

A set of small cooking utensils in 1:35 scale. It belongs among the accessories that have no structure or base of their own and serve to give the empty area around a model some content and make it look lived in. The items can be used one at a time as well; you do not have to tip them all into a single scene at once.

Cookware under field conditions

A field kitchen was improvisation. Pots were set on bricks, mess tins were dried on a stick and everything metal soon took on a shade that no manufacturer supplies in a bottle. It is exactly such items that set a scene built from a period photograph apart from a mere display case with vehicles. Cookware also traveled on with the unit, so it was battered and often mended with wire.

How to set the utensils in

Try the arrangement dry and make it irregular: two things together, one to the side, one overturned. Sink the items partly into the terrain or lean them against something, so that they do not look laid on glass. Then even the shadows under them out with a thin dark shade. A change of height helps too: something on the ground, something on a crate, something hanging, so that the eye travels over the whole area.
