The item 1:35 Diorama-Base: Hesco Bastion belongs to the Diorama-Base range from RT-Diorama and is intended for dioramas in 1:35 scale. Instead of historic European building it brings a subject that has defined the look of bases in the conflicts of recent decades: a barrier wall stacked from large-volume baskets.
Hesco barriers are wire baskets lined with geotextile that are filled on site with earth, sand or gravel. From the 1990s they took hold as a quick replacement for sandbags, and since then they have formed the perimeters of bases and protected weapon positions, stores and checkpoints in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. They are also used in flood protection, however, so the subject is not tied exclusively to a military scene.
A Hesco wall is a horizontal, monotonous element - and that is exactly why it needs contrast. Place a vehicle, a position or figures beside it so that they break the line of the top of the wall in height. It is also effective to suggest the activity around it: ruts, stored material or an approach road to the entrance. Real bases are never geometrically perfect, so slight irregularity in the arrangement will do more for the scene than a straight line.
