Scenic diorama groundwork from the German brand RT-Diorama in 1:35 scale with a thematic reference to Peenemünde. It is not a model of a rocket or a vehicle but the foundation of a view, into which the vehicles and figures are yet to be set. The groundwork determines the shape of the area and with it the composition of the whole scene.
Peenemünde on the northern tip of the island of Usedom was a German army research center from the second half of the 1930s, where the A4 rocket was developed, better known under the propaganda designation V-2. The complex included test stands, assembly halls, a power station of its own and an extensive rail siding, because the rockets were moved by rail. In August 1943 a British air raid hit the center hard and part of the development and production was afterward moved elsewhere. For a modeler it is a subject with an unusual combination of elements - vehicles, concrete surfaces and railroad infrastructure in one scene.
The groundwork is combined with vehicles and figures of the same scale; in 1:35 the choice is widest and matching rocket and launcher sets exist in it too. When laying the scene out it pays to leave part of the area clear so that the main element stands out, and to settle the main line of sight in advance. With technical complexes the contrast between the hard geometry of paved surfaces and soft vegetation around the edges works well.
