Laser-cut model foliage from the manufacturer Model Scene in a recommended scale of 1:35. It is not a finished tree and not a kit — it is a loose scenery material. The leaves have the lobed shape of an oak leaf and the color matches dry, browned foliage: muted brown, gray-brown and beige tones with no green at all. The dry designation therefore refers to the state of the foliage, not to a bare tree.

When it fits

Dry foliage is the most versatile autumn material of all. It suits late autumn as well as a winter scene without snow, worn paths, the bottoms of ditches and anywhere litter has lain for some time and already lost its color. Oak foliage moreover often stays on the branches right through the winter, so it also suits trees that are not meant to be completely bare. A practical advantage: the muted shades do not clash with the other colors of a scene and work as a base under more varied foliage.

• Older, dried-out litter on the ground — paths, ditches, the feet of walls, the corners of yards
• Fallen leaves on roofs, in gutters and on window sills
• Leaves caught on a long-parked vehicle — in the bed, on tarpaulins, under fenders
• Foliage for a tree you have made yourself for a late autumn or winter scene
• A darker base layer under more varied autumn foliage

Tips for working it

Sprinkle it through a fine sieve and fix it with thinned PVA glue or matte medium from a sprayer. Dry foliage takes rougher handling — feel free to leave some of the leaves crumpled and broken, because that is how such litter looks in nature. Top the layer up with small twigs and dust pigment so that the scene does not look like a neatly sprinkled carpet. In a winter scene, let the brown foliage show through the snow; it looks markedly better than an unbroken white surface.
