A set of figures of German soldiers from the Second World War period in 1:35 scale. It is a scene away from combat, a brief pause and a conversation of the kind that took place behind the lines every day. Scenes like these bring a diorama to life more than combat action does, because they bring in a story the viewer grasps at first glance, with no caption to read.
The characters are captured in relaxed poses that suit a scene by a vehicle, in front of a house or in the street. In 1:35 scale an adult figure measures roughly five centimeters, so the creasing of the cloth and small items of gear are visible on the figures. The set therefore complements a vehicle or a building that would look lifeless with an empty scene.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade, not by twisting. Sand the seams and the traces of manufacture with fine paper; on figures this takes more time than on equipment, because the surface is broken up and a detail is easily sanded away. Paint in layers: first the base, then the areas of the uniform, and the skin and the face last. Leave the eyes for the very end and suggest them with a fine brush, as exaggerated detail looks unnatural in this scale. A dark wash drawn into the folds then gives the cloth depth.
The set suits builders of dioramas as well as anyone who wants to add a human scale to a vehicle model. The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and scenic accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
