This injection-molded plastic kit captures the German Flakpanzer Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun in a 2 in 1 version — you build either the A1 or the A2. The limited edition from Takom offers rich detail: workable tracks, photo-etched parts, clear parts, hatches that can be opened and newly shaped running gear. A wide choice of markings covers Bundeswehr machines as well as those of other armies. It is a striking subject of modern Western air-defense equipment.
The Flakpanzer Gepard is a German self-propelled anti-aircraft gun system developed in the 1960s and introduced in the 1970s. On the chassis of the Leopard 1 tank it carries a rotating turret with two automatic guns and its own radar for searching for and tracking targets. The Gepard became the backbone of the air defense of the German army and of a number of other NATO countries, and it stayed in service for long decades.
First assemble the running gear and the lower areas of the hull; build the turret with the guns and the radar as a separate subassembly. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate and the plastic with liquid modeling cement, and give the workable tracks time. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush — the modern Gepard carries the three-color NATO camouflage. Emphasize the panel lines with a wash and the edges with a dry brush. Dust and mud on the running gear are completed with pigments, and the optics and the radar are picked out with a gloss clear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
