A plastic kit of the 8.8 cm Flak 18 Selbstfahrlafette, the famous German 88 mm gun on a self-propelled half-track chassis, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German self-propelled mount, the 88 mm Flak 18 gun seated on a heavy half-track chassis (Selbstfahrlafette). The model is richly broken down: it contains a rendered engine, gearbox and drivetrain, a multi-part chassis frame, a winch, detailed running gear with individual track links, rubber tires for the front wheels and the gun mount itself with its shield. It is an extensive kit with a high part count for more experienced modelers.
The eighty-eight, nicknamed acht-acht, is among the best-known German guns of the Second World War. Originally an anti-aircraft gun, the Flak 18 proved itself as an exceptionally effective anti-tank weapon as well. In this form a few were mounted on heavy half-track chassis to create a self-propelled gun able to deliver direct fire on the move. These vehicles were used in the first campaigns of the war already, in Poland, in France and in the attack on the Soviet Union.
Finish and paint the running gear, the engine and the lower frame before you close the hull; once glued they are harder to reach. Build and paint the tracks and the wheels separately. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, use a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. For weathering apply washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud on the running gear; bring out the mount and the barrel with light drybrushing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
