German fuel jerrycans with the year 1939 are a tiny accessory in the size of 1:35 for equipment and for the bases of scenes. The name gives the year and two period maker marks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set revolves around the unified twenty-liter container that became ordinary equipment of the German army before the war. The distinguishing datum of this item is the year 1939 given in the name together with two period maker marks, ABP and SCHWELM. The sister items of the same range carry later years, so you choose the year according to the scene you are building. The count of pieces is given in the name; the contents of the package is not stated here beyond that.
The container had three handles side by side, so one man carried it in a pair and could pass it to another without changing grip. The sides were stiffened by a cross-shaped swage, which at the same time left room for the contents to expand. The closure was worked by a lever, so there was no need to screw a cap or to look for a key. Under the neck an air chamber remained, thanks to which a full container floated.
Jerrycans were carried in holders on the fenders, at the rear of a cargo bed or lashed on top. On a model they look best when they do not stand in a regular alignment: a couple of pieces tight together, one turned, one laid flat. In color they keep to the shade of the vehicle, but rubbing arises quickly on the edges and traces left by hands stay around the handles.
