The set offers external equipment for a finished model of the American half-track vehicle carrying a mortar. The kit of the vehicle is not included and is bought separately. The set is marked as the first of two, so it can be put together with the second part or used on its own, depending on how full you want the body to be.
American half-track vehicles came about as a general-purpose chassis: conventional steered wheels at the front, a tracked suspension at the rear and a roomy open body in between. It is exactly that openness that made them an ideal carrier for all kinds of weapons and equipment, because the crew had room around them. The variant with a forward-firing mortar represented mobile fire support that moved along with the column and could open fire practically straight after stopping.
An open body means that the inside of the vehicle is visible, so the interior deserves the same care as the outside and the equipment is best seated before the space fills up. Work from the rear forward, otherwise you will not reach the rear corners with tweezers. Darken the floor and light the walls instead; the contrast will give even a shallow space a sense of depth. The seats and the walls will take a slightly higher sheen than the floor, which was walked on in muddy boots.
