A resin casting of the German M38 pattern paratrooper helmet in 1:35 scale in the detail version. It is an accessory for figures, not a kit: the helmet is fitted onto the head of a figure in place of the part from the box. The manufacturer also makes the same subject in a basic version without this designation; check the difference between the two versions on the box.
The M38 pattern helmet came about by adapting the infantry type for airborne units. The shell is shortened and lacks the drawn-out brim at the front and the neck guard at the back, so that it does not catch on equipment during a jump, and it is rounded out by a separate liner with a four-point chin strap. It was used from the end of the 1930s and is an unmistakable mark of German airborne units of the Second World War. On a figure it therefore clearly settles the branch of service and the period the scene belongs to, and with the equipment and weapons of that time it makes a consistent whole.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry through. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw, level the mating surface with a file and wet-sand it with respiratory protection. Cut the original helmet off the figure, sand the crown flat and glue the new part on with cyanoacrylate glue; fill the gap with putty. It is painted over a thin primer. On a more finely rendered casting it pays to work with thinned paints, so that the small modeling is not flooded, and to pick the details out only at the end with a wash and a drybrush.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The figure, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
