1:35 House ruin base

The real subject

The part represents the ruin of a dwelling house worked up on a common ground. The subject is not tied to a particular country or period, so it comes into its own in displays from the Second World War to present-day conflicts. That is exactly where its strength lies: one structure will serve several different projects without the same scene being repeated. The 1:35 scale matches the most widespread figures and models of military hardware.

How a ruin is useful in a scene

A damaged structure gives a display depth and action. The open masonry allows a figure to be placed inside and around the corner, the receding walls offer several levels for arranging figures and the rubble joins the house smoothly to the surrounding terrain. The ground meanwhile marks out the area of the scene and carries the structure, so the most laborious part of preparing a diorama falls away.

• 1:35 scale, the same as ordinary sets of figures and hardware
• the ruin of a dwelling house made on a ground
• no tie to a particular country or period, so widely usable
• open masonry for placing figures inside and outside the structure
• suitable on its own and as part of a more extensive composition

Building and painting tips

Clean the dust and grease off the surface before painting. A base coat will even the shade out and improve the adhesion of the further layers. The masonry comes alive when you let a dark glaze flow into the joints over a light base, run a dry brush over the edges of the breaks and set a few bricks apart in a different shade. Finally settle the dust and the scatter with pigments, most of all at the foot of the structure. Choose the glue according to the material of the part and check the particular procedure in the manufacturer's instructions.

Who it is for

The set will please modelers who want to build a first diorama without creating terrain themselves, and experienced builders looking for a universal building item for a larger scene. Paints, pigments and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
