Rear wheels of the Lancia 3Ro in 1:35 scale, cast as a dual mounting with empty tires. The type 1 variant.

The rear driven axle of a heavy truck bears a substantial part of the weight of the load, and that is why Italian designers used doubled tires on it. The set is cast as one piece for such an arrangement and the rubber is presented at the moment when there is no pressure in it. The side wall opens out, the rim drops closer to the road and the whole model settles visually downward by it.
The vehicle designated Tre Ro carried supplies across the Libyan desert, after 1943 it served on under German command and after the war it returned to civilian work on Italian roads. It was an angular machine with a wooden body and a canvas cover over the cab, whose outline a modeler remembers after the first look at a photograph from the campaign.
The designation refers to the rendering of the tread. The one matches a single period design, the two another, and in the field tires were changed according to what was available, so a combination of both on one vehicle is no blunder. When fitting, cut the part from the casting block, level the contact patch on sandpaper and seat the wheel on the original stub. It pays to glue all four wheels on only while the model is on a flat board, so it does not stand crooked.
When you are putting together several vehicles side by side, it pays to alternate the renderings. A single pattern on every machine looks artificial and a viewer senses it before he grasps why. Period photographs show the exact opposite: rubber was made up piece by piece and one vehicle commonly ran on several different designs at once.
