Border Model 1:35 Leopard 2A5 and 2A6 is a plastic kit of the German tank with the option of building the 2A5, the early 2A6 or the late 2A6.

An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern German Leopard 2 tank in 1:35 scale from Border Model. The kit designation offers a choice between the 2A5 and two forms of the 2A6, early and late: the final variant is decided during the build, so go through the instructions before you start gluing. The 1:35 scale leaves room for detail on the running gear, the turret and the external equipment.
The Leopard 2 is a West German main battle tank introduced in the 1980s. The 2A5 differs conspicuously from the earlier forms in the wedge-shaped add-on armor on the turret front, which changes the whole silhouette of the vehicle. The 2A6 follows on from the 2A5 and its main distinguishing feature is the longer barrel of the 120 mm tank gun. Early and late 2A6 vehicles then differ in details of the external equipment. Besides Germany the Leopard 2 serves in a number of other European armies, so the choice of possible finishes is wide.
First choose the variant from the instructions and mark the parts that apply to it: with kits covering several versions this is the most common source of mistakes. Assemble and paint the running gear before you close the hull. Glue with liquid cement for plastic, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action and leaves no fingerprints. Apply a primer before painting. A multicolor camouflage scheme sprays well with an airbrush over a soft mask made of modeling putty or string; the sharp transitions of today's European schemes call for tape instead. For weathering use a wash in the recesses, edge highlighting and pigments for mud and dust effects around the tracks and fenders. Paint the external equipment and tools separately so that they stand out from the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
