The resin set of wheels from PANZER ART is meant for building the British Leyland Retriever military truck in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle, but an accessory with which the wheels from a plastic kit are replaced. The AVON designation in the name identifies the tire tread pattern the casting is cut for and sets this set apart from the variants with another tread.
The Leyland Retriever was a British military truck with three axles, used during the Second World War in a whole range of roles from carrying loads to specialized workshop and signals bodies. The vehicles were topped up with tires from several makers, so the tread differs from one example to the next in surviving photographs. Choosing the right pattern is therefore one of the details that bring a model closer to a particular machine, and it is a detail that shows a great deal on the large wheels of a truck.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that they are rid of the release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surface by sanding wet with your airways protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. Tires look better at scale in dark gray than in pure black; paint the discs separately in the shade of the vehicle. At the end add dust and mud with pigments, strengthening them toward the lower part of the wheel, and lightly suggest wear on the edges of the tread.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
