This item is one of the scenic accessories, not one of the kits of vehicles. The lion is the most widespread guardian statue of European architecture. It stood at the entrances of palaces, at the feet of flights of steps, at bridge piers and at the gates of parks and cemeteries, usually in a facing pair. According to the name there are four pieces in the package, so two such pairs come out of it.
Statues give a scene a social context. They give away at once that the place was a grand one, and that strengthens the contrast with whatever is happening in the diorama.
What is strongest is symmetry and what the scene does with it. Stand the lions in a facing pair and leave one of them turned, overturned or damaged, and a decoration becomes a story about what happened here. The statues also work well as a frame for a view: when an axis runs between them to the main element of the scene, the viewer's eye will follow it unaided. Do not forget a plinth, because a statue laid straight on the paving looks smaller than it really was.
