A reconnaissance team, the second continuation

A further pair of figures from the series devoted to long-range reconnaissance, in 1:35 scale. The name gives the order two and two figures. The set can be built on its own, but it comes off best in connection with the earlier part, when they form a more numerous patrol arranged in file.

The role of long-range reconnaissance

Small groups operating outside the reach of immediate support had to rely on concealment and on what they could carry on their backs. They put weight on quiet movement, on rotating pairs at the head of the formation and on watching the surroundings in all directions. In a scene this can be suggested by the spacing of the figures and by each of them looking somewhere else; it is then immediately apparent that this is not a static pose but movement through terrain. A suggested halt works just as well, with one figure kneeling and the other standing and looking around; such a scene is understood even by a viewer who does not know the subject.

The procedure for painting camouflage uniforms

Start with the middle tone of the pattern, then apply the dark areas and only at the end the light ones. Leave the borders of the patches slightly irregular, a sharp outline looks hard. Tell the slings and the packs apart with a more saturated green or with sand, so that they are not lost in the camouflage. The last step is a fine dusting of the lower parts, which settles the figure into the terrain.
