An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M103A1 heavy tank in 1:35 scale from Takom. The model offers a metal gun barrel, photo-etched and clear parts, steel cable (wire) for the tow cables, a workable running gear with turning wheels, tracks assembled from individual links, and hatches that can be built open or closed. Decals for six marking options are included. It is a large and imposing model that matches the bulk of the real vehicle. The exact contents of the package and the number of parts are not stated here; check them against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The M103A1 was the last American heavy tank. It was created during the Cold War as a heavily armored platform for a powerful 120 mm gun intended to destroy enemy tanks at long range. Its design followed on from the late-war experimental heavy tanks. The M103A1 version was popular above all with the US Marine Corps, where it served in a support role until the early 1970s, when newer types replaced it.
Paint and highlight the workable running gear and the assembled tracks before you finish the hull. Degrease the metal gun barrel before painting. Cut the steel cable and fit it according to the instructions. Apply primer and paint with an airbrush, and put the decals on over a gloss coat. Bring out the panel lines and the details with a wash, and add dust and mud effects with pigments. Even a subtle color modulation of the base shade shows well on a large model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
