This is neither a vehicle kit nor a figure. It is a stand-alone accessory, a model of the American M1A1 antitank weapon in 1:35 scale, intended to equip models that are already built. You will use it where the armament is meant to be more accurate in shape than what an ordinary injection-molded tooling provides: in the hands of a figure, on a bracket inside a vehicle or as part of a still life on a diorama.
The M1A1 was a revised form of the American M1 rocket launcher introduced during the Second World War. The weapon had a smooth launching tube of 2.36 inch caliber, that is roughly 60 millimeters, it was operated by a pair of soldiers and was carried on the shoulder. Compared with the original form the M1A1 received a simplified firing system and revised accessories. It is one of the most frequently modeled items of American infantry equipment of the period, which is why the accessory suits a wide range of vehicles and figures.
The part is small, so separate it with a sharp tool and over a mat so that it does not get away from you. Before painting, wash the surface in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry through. Apply a thin base, then the base shade, and pick the shapes out with a dark wash and light dry brushing. What really lends conviction is the placing: the weapon looks better slung over a shoulder, leaned against the side of a vehicle or laid beside its crew than lying loose in the middle of a scene.
