M32 Recovery Vehicle 1:35 from Italeri — an injection-molded plastic kit of the American recovery vehicle on the chassis of the Sherman tank, with a pivoting boom and a towing winch.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American armored recovery vehicle M32 in 1:35 scale from Italeri. The model captures a machine built on the proven chassis of the medium tank M4 Sherman, whose turret was removed and replaced with a fixed superstructure carrying a large folding boom. The box holds injection-molded plastic sprues and decals for period American vehicles.
The M32 came about during the Second World War by converting the Sherman tank into a recovery and repair vehicle. Instead of the turret it received a fixed hull with a pivoting lattice A-frame (boom) and a powerful towing winch, with which it could pull out bogged down or damaged tanks and lift heavy assemblies such as engines and turrets. The supplementary armament consisted of an 81mm mortar for laying a smoke screen and a machine gun. The vehicles served with the repair and supply units of the Allies on every front and kept the armored formations fit to fight.
On a recovery vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the running gear and the lower parts of the hull before you close the superstructure. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and spray the olive green finish with an airbrush in thin coats. Liven up the winch, the chains and the boom with a dark wash and dry brushing; mud and dust effects are made with pigments on the running gear and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
