A resin replacement hull in 1:35 scale for the model of the American M4A3 Sherman medium tank, cast with an additional layer of concrete applied to the front and side faces. The heavy variant of the modification means a bulkier layer, which changes the outline of the vehicle markedly. The set is a replacement part, not a kit, and the plastic model has to be obtained separately.
Strengthening armor with concrete belonged among the improvised field modifications that units carried out with their own means, which is why the execution differed from one example to the next. For a modeler it is one of the most rewarding subjects: the rough, irregular surface of the concrete contrasts with the smooth faces of rolled plate and opens room for different coloring and finish. The resin casting brings this texture ready made and in one piece, which against modeling it by hand from filler is a fundamental saving of time and a source of a more even result.
Wash the hull in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces by sanding wet with your airways protected. Before gluing, check how the part joins the running gear and the lower tub of the chosen kit, and adjust the mating surfaces if needed. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the concrete apart from the metal: a gray base noticeably lighter, fine patches and marks for unevenness, a thin wash in the hollows and a dry brush on the edges. Concrete is absorbent, so it takes more dust and dirt than paint, and it is precisely that difference in the degree of soiling that makes the whole effect believable.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
