An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy recovery vehicle M984A2 HEMTT Wrecker in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is a richly broken-down model of the eight-wheel vehicle; the chassis is worked out in detail with the engine, the transmission and the suspension. According to the manufacturer a photo-etched part is included as well.
The HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) is a family of American heavy tactical trucks with drive on all eight wheels. The M984 Wrecker version is a recovery and maintenance vehicle fitted with a powerful crane, a recovery winch and a rear recovery device. It serves to pull out and tow damaged vehicles, to change large assemblies and to carry out maintenance in the field. The A2 configuration is the upgraded version; thanks to all-wheel drive and a massive chassis the vehicle copes even in heavy terrain where ordinary vehicles get stuck.
Start with the chassis — the engine, the axles and the suspension — and only then build the body with the crane. Think the movable parts of the crane and the winch out in advance so that you can show them in the working position in a diorama. Fit the hollow tires only after painting. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene and the photo-etched part with cyanoacrylate. Spray a primer before painting; a uniform olive, desert sand or three-color NATO camouflage works well. Create the weathering with washes in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and pigments for dust, mud and oil traces around the crane and the winch.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
