A turned metal part for the German MG 34 machine gun in 1:35 scale, a replacement for the plastic part from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MG 34 was a German 7.92 mm general purpose machine gun introduced in the mid-1930s. It combined roles that had until then belonged to different weapons: on a bipod it served as a squad light machine gun, on a tripod as a heavy machine gun, and in large numbers it also appeared as the armament of armored vehicles and as an anti-aircraft weapon on ring mounts. Its recognition feature is the slim perforated barrel jacket, which cooled the barrel with air and at the same time allowed a quick change for a cold one.
What the part is about is the metal construction: a turned barrel rather than a molded one. Turned metal holds a thin wall and a precisely circular cross section in the places where a plastic part made in a mold always comes out thicker and with a coarser muzzle. On a model in 1:35 scale this difference is easy to see, because a machine gun tends to sit in an exposed place on a vehicle or beside a figure. The exact scope of supply is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the original part off with a sharp blade or a saw at the place the instructions give, and true up the cut surface. Do not glue the metal part with cement for polystyrene, which has no effect on metal; use cyanoacrylate glue and apply it in a minute amount. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and lay down a primer, otherwise the coat will not hold on the smooth surface even once it has dried. Keep the shade of the weapon rather dark and matte, and save any sheen for the edges that get rubbed in service.
Paints, glue and other materials are not included, unless stated otherwise. The scope of supply is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
