The accessory captures the German general-purpose machine gun in its most common infantry form, to whose side a drum with a coiled ammunition belt is attached. In period photographs this arrangement was among the very most frequent: the drum held the belt together during a move and the crew could open fire without lengthy setting up. The size of 1:35 given in the name matches the most widespread range of kits of ground equipment, so the object suits most vehicles and figures of the ordinary run.
The MG 34 was introduced in the middle of the nineteen thirties and is considered the first truly general-purpose weapon of its kind. The same piece served with a bipod as the light support of a squad, on a mount it filled the role of a heavy machine gun and in a reworked form it pointed out of the ports of armored vehicles. A quick change of barrel and a high rate of fire made that possible. Production was, however, demanding in machining and in time, and so it was later supplemented by simpler designs with stamped parts.
The weapon is very small in this scale, so separate it over a light surface and rather trim the excess with a sharp knife than sand it away. Adapt the type of glue to the material of the part. The base looks good in a dark steel gray, the edges and the perforated barrel jacket stand out after a fine pass with a pencil lead, and the stock is set apart with a warm brown tone.
