A set from the brand LIANG Model for building dioramas in 1:35 scale. They are not parts for a model of a vehicle but scenic objects in their own right: drink cans and cardboard boxes. What matters is the time span given in the name: the form corresponds to the period roughly from the turn of the millennium to the present, so the set belongs in modern tableaux, not in period ones.
Litter and packaging are inconspicuous in a diorama, but they give away the period more reliably than most of the equipment. A can and a carton have a different shape and graphics in every era, and when a piece that does not belong to the given period is in a scene, the tableau begins to come across as contradictory. A set with a modern span therefore suits contemporary equipment, humanitarian and civilian scenes, supply tableaux or a setting that nobody has tidied. Besides the dating it manages two further things: it fills an empty area of the base and gives the viewer a clear scale, because everyone knows the size of a can.
The most work here is with the surface, not with the building. The cans benefit from a glossier surface and the carton, on the contrary, from a matte one, and a scene reads that difference at once. If you use printed or painted labels, coat the area with a smooth primer beforehand, otherwise the printing will roughen it. Crumpled and trodden pieces will do a scene a greater service than perfectly straight ones, so add a bend to them and let them lie on their side. Dust the carton lightly all over with pigment and rub the corners with a lighter color, so that it looks worn. Finally unify all the objects with the same dust as the terrain.
