The set 1:35 Owen SMG is an accessory, not a model. It contains neither a figure nor a vehicle — these are separately cast replicas of the Owen submachine gun in 1:35 scale, with which you replace the coarser plastic weapons from ordinary kits or arm figures that have no weapons of their own. Bravo 6 casts these sets in resin, so they hold considerably finer detail than plastic drawn out of a split mold.
The Owen Machine Carbine is an Australian submachine gun of 9 mm caliber, easily recognized by its unusual layout: the magazine is fitted on top and the sights are therefore offset to the side. It appeared at the start of the 1940s and, thanks to a simple and robust design that coped well with damp and dirt, it stayed in service with Australian units long after the Second World War. For a diorama builder it is a characteristic piece that tells a scene unambiguously whose unit it is.
Wash the small castings first in lukewarm water with dish soap. Cut the casting blocks off carefully with a fine saw or a sharp scalpel — the barrel and the sights are thin and break off easily. Sand the remains down with fine paper. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Start the painting with a dark primer, then the metal parts either in blued steel or in graphite applied with a dry brush; set the wooden and bakelite parts apart with a warmer brown tone. A fine wash will bring out the shape, and a careful final lightening of the edges will suggest worn metal.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is intended as an accessory for figures and models, not as a model in its own right. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
