The Iskander-M is a Russian operational-tactical missile system introduced at the beginning of this century. The launcher stands on an off-road wheeled chassis with high ground clearance and carries a pair of missiles under hinged covers. In the travel position the vehicle looks like an ordinary heavy truck, because the missiles are completely hidden; only once the covers are opened and the rails raised does the silhouette take on its familiar shape. Among modelers it is a popular subject precisely because of the striking shape of the lifting mechanism.
A mask works best on a smooth, degreased surface, so it pays to wipe the model down before painting. Apply the darker shades after the lighter ones, which reduces the number of coats you need. Keep the pressure on the airbrush lower so that the paint is not forced under the edges. After removing it, check the edges against the light and make good any shortcomings with a fine brush before you add the weathering effects.
