About product

Football colors on an artillery mount

A football club from Gelsenkirchen and a modern German self-propelled howitzer make a combination nobody would think of, and yet a whole set of stencils has been left behind by it. The Panzerhaubitze 2000 is a tracked 155 mm system with an unusually long barrel, an automatic loader and the ability to lay several rounds so that they land on the target at the same time. The Bundeswehr introduced it in the second half of the 1990s and it was gradually taken up by the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania and Ukraine as well.

An unconventional finish as a subject

Models in a colorful finish hold a special position among collectors: they stand out from the row of green and brown hulls and you cannot miss them on a show table. At the same time they are extremely demanding to execute, because on a uniform surface every imperfect edge and every seepage of paint under an edge shows. This is exactly where a stencil pays off most.

What makes this machine stand out

A barrel 52 calibers long sends an ordinary round over thirty kilometers, and considerably further with special ammunition. The loading is handled by an automatic system, so the crew can keep up a high rate of fire without physical exhaustion. The whole outfit can also stop from a drive, fire and set off again before the other side manages to fix the firing position.

What to keep in mind during the build

Light tones have poor covering power, so a proper base coat belongs under them, ideally a white one. Spread the work over several evenings and deal with the barrel separately, off the hull. Let the last coat really cure before lifting the film off, otherwise what is meant to stay will come away with it.

The package holds stencils and nothing more. The howitzer and the paints have to be obtained separately.

FAQ

A German tracked self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber with a long barrel and automatic ammunition handling, introduced in the 1990s.

The Bundeswehr introduced it and it gradually appeared in the armament of other European armies as well, among them the Dutch and the Italian.

On a large uniform surface every inaccurate edge stands out. A stencil therefore makes more difference here than on a broken-up camouflage.

Only after the last coat has fully cured. Lifting it too early tears the paint off where it was meant to stay.
