This set is a diorama building, not a model of equipment. It shows a pub, that is a building which in the European countryside and in small towns filled the role of a social center. In 1:35 scale it suits all ordinary military and civilian models and gives a scene a clear theme.
A building with the function of a pub gives the viewer an immediate theme. Soldiers in front of the entrance, overturned chairs, a bicycle leaning against the wall, a horse tied at the corner, a hanging sign torn off on one side – all these are small things that tell a story without a single word. That is exactly why a pub builds better than an anonymous little house: the viewer imagines the action for himself.
Set the facade going unevenly, leave the lower part of the wall darker from splashing and rubbed from being leaned against. Paint the hanging board by hand or use free text in a period typeface, but do not overdo the contrast – freshly drawn lettering on a weathered wall comes across as artificial. Darken the windows and let the tone of the sky reflect in them, so that the building does not look empty. Bring out the threshold and the step in front of the entrance with a lighter shade, because it is here that stone gets worn down the most.
