A plastic kit of the German Panzerkampfwagen I light tank in the Ausf.B version in 1:35 scale from Takom, in a limited release. According to the manufacturer the package contains photo-etched parts and tracks made up of a combination of individual links and length runs. In the large 1:35 scale the small but busy silhouette of this early tank stands out, and it is a rewarding subject for a collection as well as for a diorama from the beginning of the war.
The Panzerkampfwagen I was a small light tank with which Germany built up its armored forces in the second half of the 1930s. The Ausf.B version had a lengthened chassis with five road wheels and a stronger engine than the original Ausf.A. It was armed only with a pair of machine guns and served chiefly as a training and reconnaissance machine, but it also took part in the first campaigns of the Second World War and in the Spanish Civil War. Despite its weak armament it played an important part in building German tank doctrine.
Assemble the running gear and the tracks first, and only then close up the hull. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. For an early-war German scheme a uniform dark gray works well, brought to life by chipping on the edges, washes in the recesses and fine dust pigments on the running gear. A small tank benefits from subtle color modulation, so that it does not look flat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
