T-72B3M 1:35 — Trumpeter

An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Russian main battle tank T-72B3M in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The box holds injection-molded plastic sprues, photo-etched parts and decals. The model represents the current upgrade with blocks of reactive armor and the characteristic slat armor protecting the rear and the sides.

The real subject

The T-72B3M is a deep upgrade of the proven Soviet T-72 tank, introduced by the Russian army in recent years. Compared with the older versions it received a new, more powerful engine, an upgraded fire control system with digital optics, improved stabilization and additional protection: new-generation reactive armor and folding slat armor against shaped-charge munitions. The main armament is a 125 mm gun with an autoloader, also able to launch anti-tank guided missiles. The tank is among the most widespread vehicles of its kind.

Building and painting tips

On a modern tank, assemble and paint the running gear and the lower hull before you fit the blocks of reactive armor and the slat armor. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with liquid cement for plastic, and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting and spray the multicolor camouflage with an airbrush. Pick out the engraving with a panel wash, suggest wear with a dry brush and apply dust pigments to the running gear.
