Production of the light armored car Sd.Kfz 222 ran from the second half of the thirties and the machine was transformed during it. The mesh above the open turret was worked out differently, so were the exhaust and the mounting of tools on the sides of the body, and the tires were different too, because several firms supplied them at once. The word late in the name ties this set to cars from the later batches.
The brand has split the wheels for this car by three criteria: the shape of the machine, the state of the tire and the kit the part is to fit. A dozen separate items came out of it and the choice between them rests on what is lying on your bench and what you want to show on the finished model. The number without a design specified, that is MIX, deliberately leaves the run unmatched.
For the same car the brand also lists a spare wheel in a canvas cover and a separate pair of spare rims. Anyone building a machine laid up in a field will appreciate just such a small thing: a cover over the spare suggests that the crew looked after its kit, a bare rim at the rear testifies to the opposite. This set bears either course.
Before gluing it pays merely to seat the wheels and stand the finished body on a hard board. Only when it stands without rocking does the glue come into play. A wheel off the ground looks out of place in a photograph and once the glue has dried there is nothing to be done with it but break it off, so that extra minute repays itself handsomely.
