A resin casting of a canvas for a model of the German Sd.Kfz. 247 armored command vehicle in the Ausf. B version, meant as an accessory to a finished model in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle. The canvas is cast with its sag, creases and fastening at the edges of the body, that is with details that are hard to reach in a convincing thickness of material when shaping by hand from foil or filler.
The Sd.Kfz. 247 was a German armored command car with an open upper compartment, built in the Ausf. B version on a four-wheeled chassis with all-wheel drive. It served staff and signals purposes, so it carried radio sets, maps and equipment that must not get wet. The open upper part of the body was therefore commonly covered with a canvas in service, both during halts and on moves in bad weather. On a model this modification has a double effect: it covers an interior that need not be detailed, and at the same time it gives the vehicle a silhouette matching period service rather than a factory drawing.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap because of remains of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a fine-bladed saw, level the surfaces with a file and sand with your airways protected. Try the seating dry, sand the mating edges to the outline of the body if needed and glue with super glue. Apply a primer before painting. Tarpaulin lives off contrast — lighten the ridges of the creases with a dry brush, pull the hollows and folds down with a dark wash and unify the whole with a fine filter. A matte varnish knocks back the gloss of the resin, and fine dust pigments on the horizontal faces tie the canvas to the rest of the vehicle.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
