This injection-molded plastic kit from Tamiya represents the German Sd.Kfz.223 light armored reconnaissance vehicle in the radio version (Fu) with its large frame antenna. The set joins the proven precision of Tamiya with photo-etched parts and it also offers crew figures and accessories such as jerrycans and a camouflage net.
The Sd.Kfz.223 was a four-wheeled (4x4) light armored car meant for reconnaissance and above all for communications. The recognition mark of the radio version (Funkwagen) is the conspicuous frame antenna above the hull, which allowed radio contact over long distances. The vehicle was mobile and fast, with light armor protecting the crew against splinters and small arms fire.
Paint the interior and the inside of the hull before you close it up. The frame antenna and the photo-etched parts call for careful gluing, and the metal elements should be joined with cyanoacrylate. The base is the period German gray or the three-color camouflage, according to the period. Bring out the engraving and the hatches with a wash, pick out the edges with a dry brush and finish the dust and mud on the wheels and the chassis with pigments for a convincing look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
