This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from AFV Club captures the German half-track carrier Sd.Kfz.251/9 armed with a short 75 mm gun. Because of its stubby barrel the version earned the nickname Stummel. The kit is known for its accuracy and its detail: it usually offers a metal barrel with a bored muzzle, a well worked-out interior of the fighting and driving compartments, photo-etched parts and rear doors that can be built open.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was the basic German half-track carrier of the Second World War. The 251/9 variant carried a short 75 mm gun with an L/24 barrel on a mounting similar to the one used by the early self-propelled howitzers on the Panzer III chassis. The vehicle thus gave the infantry direct fire support. The open fighting compartment allowed quick action and a good view, at the price of limited protection for the crew from above. These half-tracks accompanied armored and infantry units right in the front line.
First assemble and paint the interior and the running gear, and only then close the hull up - the open compartment stays visible. The metal barrel can be finished separately. Spray the base with an airbrush and, on a three-color camouflage, work from the lightest shade to the darkest. For weathering use a darker wash in the recesses and earth pigments on the running gear and the underside. Bring the inside to life by picking out the tools and the ammunition.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
