A photo-etched set for the Sturmgeschütz StuG.III Ausf. G in 1:35 scale from the Czech maker Eduard adds thin metal parts to a model that plastic cannot manage at this scale.

This is not a kit of the vehicle but a supplementary photo-etched set in 1:35 scale. It contains parts of thin photo-etched metal that replace or supplement the plastic components of a kit where an injection mold cannot produce them at a realistic thickness. Typically these are elements that on the real vehicle were made of sheet metal, that is parts a fraction of a millimeter thick.
Injection-molded plastic has a technological minimum thickness. Everything that is thin on the real thing, that is sheet-metal covers, brackets, tool clamps, lifting eyes and grilles, must necessarily be thicker in plastic than the scale calls for. On a finished model that looks soft and imprecise. Photo-etched metal is tenths of a millimeter thick and the difference shows above all on the silhouette and on the edges, where a model stops looking like an enlarged toy.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface rather than by twisting. Make the bends in an etch bender or between two blades, and with long parts along the whole length at once so that the bend is not wavy. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth brass. It is glued with cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount, as cement for plastic does not work here. The recommended procedure with vehicles is to assemble the running gear and the inner parts before you close the hull up, and to fit the photo-etched details in the order in which you will still be able to reach them. At the end the weathering is completed by a dark wash into the recesses and pigments on the running gear.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit. The model, glue, primer and paints are not included in the package.
