An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet medium tank T-34/76 in the ChTZ production version (the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant), in 1:35 scale from the Tamiya brand. The model captures the typical cast turret with its characteristic rounding and hatches that can be built open or closed; the box also holds two figures and accessories.
The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, valued for its combination of sloped armor, mobility on wide tracks and armament. The T-34/76 version carried a 76mm gun. Vehicles built in Chelyabinsk (ChTZ, part of what was known as Tankograd) can be recognized by the particular shape of their cast turret; fewer of these machines were made, which makes the ChTZ variant a fairly distinctive form among the many T-34s produced.
With a tank it pays to assemble and paint the running gear, the road wheels and the tracks before the hull is closed up. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, then fill and sand the joints. Lay a primer before painting and spray the green of Soviet equipment with an airbrush in thin layers. Volume comes from emphasizing the edges, from dark washes in the recesses and from pigments for dust and mud effects on the lower hull and the tracks; the figures supplied will bring a diorama to life.
