Decals in 1:35 scale from Star Decals. According to the name these are generic turret numbers for the 3. Komp. of the sPzAbt 503 heavy tank detachment in the area of Kursk in 1943. The set is an accessory to a model of the Tiger I tank.
The abbreviation sPzAbt denotes an independent heavy tank detachment, that is a unit armed with heavy tanks which was not permanently assigned to one division and was attached wherever a prepared defense had to be broken through. Detachment 503 was among the first units armed with the Tiger I tank, and in the summer of 1943 it was deployed in the southern part of the Kursk salient. The designation 3. Komp. refers to the third company of the detachment; turret numbers were the main distinguishing mark with these units, because the company and the individual vehicle could be told from them quickly in the field.
Turret numbers were applied to both sides of the turret and as a rule to the rear as well, so this is work on symmetry. First measure the position off from the outside and mark it with a strip of masking tape at the same height on both sides; only then start applying them. Level the area beforehand with a gloss varnish, so that no pale edge is left around the numerals. Numerals with an outline are demanding to get sitting straight, so work in good light and adjust the position while the base is still damp.
