A resin set of wheels in 1:35 scale for the American JLTV armored tactical vehicle. It is not a kit of the vehicle nor a finished model; it is an accessory intended to replace the plastic wheels from the box. The wheels are cast with loaded deformation: the tire is flattened where it meets the road and the sidewall is slightly bulged, as though the weight of an armored vehicle were resting on the wheel.
The JLTV has a high chassis and massive tires, which are visible on a model from every angle. A perfectly round plastic wheel therefore makes it look as though the vehicle were levitating above the base, and that even on an otherwise precisely built model. Cast deformation removes this problem in a single step. Resin also carries a sharper pattern on the coarse off-road tread and on the sidewall, because the casting is in one piece and no parting line arises on it that would have to be sanded away.
The JLTV, that is the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, is an American light armored tactical vehicle, which in the United States Army and Marine Corps is replacing the older HMMWV type. It came about in several purpose-built forms, from a carrier to a mount for heavy armament, and what they have in common is tough armor, high ground clearance and large off-road tires. In modeling it is a fairly fresh subject, which several kit manufacturers deal with in 1:35 scale.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, otherwise the release agent from the mold will keep the primer from adhering. Cut the casting block off with a thin saw, level the area with a file and sand wet with protection for your airways. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue. When fitting a wheel, turn it so that the flattened area sits down flat on the base, otherwise the effect will not stand out. At the end, dust pigments rubbed into the tread and a lighter deposit on the sidewalls suit well.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
