Figures of American soldiers in 1:35 scale bring into a military scene what the hardware alone cannot supply: a human dimension. At this scale an adult figure comes to about five centimeters, so beside a model of a vehicle or a building it shows the true proportions of the whole at once. A group of figures also gives a scene a story, whether it is a patrol, a short conference beside the hardware or a halt during a move.
They come off best in a diorama, where they have the support of the terrain and the surrounding accessories. It is good practice not to set the figures in a row at equal intervals; a scene looks livelier when one figure faces the viewer, another turns into the depth and a third leans on the hardware or a wall. In a display case even a single figure beside a vehicle is enough for the viewer to realize at once how large the model in front of him is.
Cut any excess material away a little distance from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder carefully, so that the detail of the face and the equipment does not suffer. Try the joints dry first; cyanoacrylate glue suits the joining, as it holds on ordinary modeling materials. Before painting, wash and degrease the surface and only then prime it. Lay acrylics down in thin coats, shade the face and the hands with glazes, bring out the folds of the fabric with a dark wash and go over the edges with a dry brush. Finally unify the surface with a matte varnish and leave the gloss only on the goggles or on the leather of the straps.
The set will suit modelers who build American military hardware in 1:35 scale and want a crew or escorting infantry for it. Diorama makers who are missing figures for a scene will appreciate it too. Even a moderately advanced builder can manage the painting, because the areas are small and any mistake can be painted over.
