1:35 US tank mechanics (2 fig.) is a CMK resin set with two figures of mechanics in working poses. An accessory for a model of equipment in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of castings in modeling resin in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. This is not a kit of a vehicle but a figure accessory. The theme of the set is maintenance, which sets it apart both from standing infantry and from a crew in a hatch: a mechanic is modeled in a working position and his point lies in the link to a particular place on the model.
A working pose means bending forward, bent legs, a hand resting on something or kneeling. Figures like these make no sense standing loose on grass; they belong at an open engine compartment, at a dismantled running gear, at a stand or at a vehicle with a panel swung open. The practical consequence is that setting them up is harder here than with a standing figure, because several points have to seat at once: the foot, the knee and the resting palm. Test the position dry and adjust the contact surfaces with a file until the casting sits without rocking. Only then glue it. Anyone who skips this step gets a figure that does not touch the engine and the scene does not work.
With more complex poses the casting blocks tend to be in several places, including the underside of a forearm. Cut them off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surfaces with a file rather than with coarse paper, as on a small surface a coarse abrasive easily takes off too much. The parting line passes through the folds of the work clothing, which are soft shapes easily wiped away; sand gently and restore the edge with a knife. Before clear coating, wash in warm water with detergent because of the release agent. Cyanoacrylate glue, and fill the gaps with putty. Sand with respiratory protection.
This set is pleasant to paint precisely because work clothing is allowed to be dirty. After the base and the base color of the clothing, add greasy stains in a darker, glossier shade on the knees, forearms and side, dust on the boots and fine wear on the edges. Leave the hands and nails darker than the face, as with a mechanic that is a detail the viewer notices. Paint separately from the model and glue the figure in at the end.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
