A modeling scene lives on small items. It is they that say when the action is taking place, and few objects manage it as quickly as a decorated tree. This set offers the complete equipment of such a moment: a conifer, a stand to go under it, a topper for the very top, six hanging ornaments, two wrapped presents, a child's sled and a plush teddy bear. Thirteen pieces together, out of which a whole corner of a room can be put.
The 1:35 scale is the home of military modeling and at the same time the most frequent size of figures, at roughly fifty millimeters. The space of the scene is therefore big enough for the presents under the tree to be made out one by one and for the teddy bear not to be merely a dark speck. The equipment suits the interior of a house, a place by a shop window or a yard with armored equipment driving past: the contrast between a holiday and a wartime setting belongs among the strongest themes in the field.
The ornaments are the smallest component and it pays to paint them before they leave the sprue; a small glossy dot is then applied with the tip of a toothpick. The tree will bear a dry brush in a lighter green, which draws out the ends of the twigs, and a fine dusting of white pigment in the role of fresh snow. The stand and the sled tend to be most clearly seen from close up, so it is precisely with them that it pays to devote time to the grain of the wood.
The package does not contain figures or the building the scene is to be placed in. Reckon with a base of your own.
