A waterwheel in 1:35 scale is a diorama accessory for mills, sawmills and forge mills. It gives a rural scene a landmark around which a whole story can be built.

This item is one of the scenic accessories, not one of the kits of vehicles. For centuries the waterwheel was the main source of power for rural works. It drove mills, sawmills, forge mills and fulling mills, and it always stood where a fall of water could be used. In a diorama it is an element that cannot be hidden, so you will usually subordinate the whole composition of the scene to it.
It comes into its own in any scene where water flows and where the building has a historic character.
What counts is the water. The wheel has to sit so that a millrace leads to it and so that the level of the water matches the way the water reached the wheel, that is from above, from the side or from below. A mismatch between the level and the wheel will be noticed even by a viewer who knows nothing about mills. It is also rewarding to suggest the activity around it: a worn bank, a trodden path to the building and traces of water on the wall by the wheel. A static scene then looks like a place where work was done. A figure at the entrance to the mill house helps too, because only beside a figure does the viewer see how large a waterwheel really was.
