An add-on engine set for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48. It is intended to make the area under the engine cowlings visible on the model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production form of the British fighter with which the Royal Air Force entered the Second World War. It was powered by the liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine, boosted by a supercharger and housed under narrow cowlings on the nose of the fuselage; the tight packaging around the engine gives the slender silhouette by which a Spitfire is recognized at a glance. The engine was densely surrounded by piping, wiring and tanks, so an uncovered nose has plenty to show on a model.
This is an add-on engine set for a model of the Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48. It supplements what a kit usually leaves undone under the closed cowlings, that is the powerplant itself and its surroundings. The extent of the parts and the way they are installed are given in the instructions from the manufacturer. If you want the engine to show, expect the cowlings on the model to stay open or to be modified; go through the degree of surgery on the kit in advance.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary modeling cement does not work on them; bond the joints with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder back; on thin sections work in small steps. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly. The engine comes alive when a dark wash is laid into the recesses and the edges and exposed surfaces are lightened instead; added wiring from thin wire then gives the whole thing depth. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer when fitting it.
The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
