About product

Panther Ausf. G 1:35: photo-etched set from E.T. Model

This item is not a kit of the tank but a photo-etched detail set for a model of the Panther in the Ausf. G version in 1:35 scale. Photo-etch offers what injection-molded plastic cannot manage technologically: parts a few tenths of a millimeter thick with sharp edges and fine perforation. On a model it is thus possible to render faithfully the grilles over the engine, the thin fenders, the tool clamps, the eyes and other small items that the eye notices first.

The real subject

The Ausf. G was the most numerously produced version of the German Panther medium tank. It brought a simplified and stronger hull without the cutout for the driver's vision port, revised sides and a series of production simplifications intended to speed up series output in the closing stages of the war. The armament consisted of a 7.5 cm gun with a long barrel, which kept its excellent penetrating power. It is precisely the G version that, thanks to its wide use and the amount of surviving documentation, is one of the most popular subjects among builders of armor.

Usage and painting tips

Work on a light, hard surface, so that the small parts do not disappear on you. Cut them off with a scalpel, make the bends in a bending tool and check the right angle. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in a minute amount with a piece of wire or a pin. Before painting, degrease the metal and give it a base coat for metal. Late German vehicles often wore a three-color camouflage, which benefits from a preshade, fine shading of the surfaces and a final emphasis of the edges with drybrushing plus washes in the recesses.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want to turn an ordinary kit into a competition model
  • More experienced builders used to photo-etch and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Diorama builders focused on the end of the Second World War

The package contains only photo-etched parts. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a photo-etched set of details. The plastic kit of the Panther has to be bought separately.

It was the most numerous variant, with a simplified and stronger hull without the cutout for the driver's vision port and with a series of production changes.

It is not absolutely necessary, but it makes the work much easier. Without one, the parts can be bent between two metal jaws or razor blades.

First degrease it, then spray on a base coat for metal and only after that apply the color shade. Without a primer the paint holds badly on sheet.
