A decal set imitating the Zimmerit coating on a model of the German Sd.Kfz.184 Elefant tank destroyer in 1:35 scale, prepared for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sd.Kfz.184 Elefant was a German heavy tank destroyer of the Second World War. The output of its combustion engines was passed to the tracks electrically and the main armament was a long 8.8 cm anti-tank gun in the front wall of the fighting superstructure. Zimmerit was a paste-like coating applied to the vertical armor surfaces of German vehicles; its ridged surface was meant to keep magnetic mines from sticking.
Decals with an imitation of the Zimmerit coating for a model of the Elefant in 1:35 scale, shaped for the Tamiya kit. They do away with applying the substance by hand, where the spacing of the ridges easily drifts or an armor edge disappears.
The surface under the decals has to be smooth and finished in gloss, otherwise air will get under the film and white patches will appear. Go part by part and think the layout of the large areas out in advance, so that the joins fall in places where the armor is divided. The exact application procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions; keep to them. Varnish the finished area and paint it like real Zimmerit: a base shade, a darker tone run into the ridges and a lighter picking out of the edges.
For a builder of German equipment who wants Zimmerit on the model but does not want to shape it by hand from filler. The package contains a decal set; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
