This item is not a tank kit but a stand-alone resin accessory that replaces the bare end of the barrel on a Tiger I plastic kit already built or under way. According to the name the package holds three pieces, so you can choose the version that best suits your diorama scene, or use the remaining castings on further builds. A resin casting captures the soft folds of the fabric and the way it is drawn over the body of the brake far more faithfully than a split plastic mold can manage.
A muzzle brake diverted part of the recoil to the sides, but it was at the same time the most exposed place on the barrel. In the field crews routinely covered it with canvas or sacking, so that dust, mud, snow and water did not get into the bore and into the slots of the brake. The cover was taken off before firing, so in photographs from training and from moves it is visible far more often than in combat. For a modeler it is a rewarding detail: it breaks up the uniform metal silhouette of the barrel and says clearly what situation the vehicle is shown in.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface, or the paint will hold badly. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break it off, and work the surface so that the cover seats on the barrel without a gap. Glue with super glue, as plastic cement does not work on resin. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. When painting, set the canvas apart from the metal, give it a more matte and warmer tone, run a dark wash into the hollows of the folds and pick the edges out with a dry brush. A pigment or a dust shade on the underside of the cover gives the vehicle an immediate sense of service.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings to be finished. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
