1:350 Carley float for 25 people, Type 2, 3D PRINTED is a resin set of life rafts for ship models in 1:350 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, made by 3D printing.

This is not a model of a ship but a ship accessory set. It contains Carley type life floats in the form for twenty-five people, variant type 2, made by 3D printing in resin. On a model the floats are placed on the sides of the superstructure, on the walls of turrets or in racks on deck. Printing makes it possible to reproduce even the woven structure of the floor and the grab lines around the circumference, a level of detail in 1:350 scale that injection-molded plastic cannot manage.
The Carley float was a simple lifesaving device used on warships in the first half of the twentieth century. It consisted of an oval float of cork or kapok wrapped in canvas with an inner floor of slats or netting and with grab lines around the circumference. The floats were stowed in stacks on the superstructure, because they were light, unsinkable and needed no launching gear. They were made in several sizes according to the number of people they were to carry.
Working with resin. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, cut the print supports off with a saw or a sharp knife and level the spot with fine abrasive paper. Sanding is better done wet, and dry sanding always with respiratory protection. They are glued with super glue, ideally the gel kind, which gives you time to seat them. Apply a primer before painting. The floats are usually painted in the shade of the surrounding deck or superstructure; the grab lines come into their own after a dark wash and a light dry brush in a lighter tone. Because of the size of the parts it pays to paint them while still on a stick and to glue them on only when finished.
The set is an accessory for a ship model, it is not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
