Wooden deck with masking film 1:350 for the German destroyer Z-32 from Artwox Model is a self-adhesive veneer with pre-printed plank laying that takes over from the engraved plastic of the original deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among aftermarket accessories for ship kits in 1:350 scale. It holds a veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing, and masking film with it, as the name gives. The deck goes straight onto the plastic part of the kit and takes over from its engraved surface with real wood.
Injected plastic can suggest the seams between planks, but it will never give the pattern of growth rings or the irregularity of tone that real wood has. Veneer also scatters light differently from a smooth varnished area, so the model looks convincing even in a handheld photograph. On a destroyer, where the deck area is small and the viewer's eye is close to it, this difference shows very strongly.
First free the plastic deck of flash and sand it flat with fine paper; every unevenness is imprinted under thin veneer. Then degrease the surface with alcohol and let it dry. Try the veneer dry, and only then take the covering film off, and only from part of the backing. Lay the deck against one fixed reference point, usually along the axis of the hull, and press it down gradually from the middle out to the edges, so that no air is closed in under the veneer. Around superstructures and hatches, trim the part with a fresh scalpel blade.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. The accessory is cut for one particular kit, Dragon 1065; please check the match before buying.
