An injection-molded plastic kit of the battleship HMS Prince of Wales in 1:350 from the Japanese maker Tamiya. In this large scale a representative model of about 65 cm in length comes about, capturing the massive hull, the main-caliber gun turrets and the intricate superstructures. As is usual in this scale, the hull can be built either as a whole on the supplied stand or in the simplified waterline form. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
HMS Prince of Wales was a British battleship of the King George V class, completed at the start of the Second World War. She took part in the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck and then headed for the Pacific. In December 1941 she was sunk off Malaya by Japanese aircraft and so became one of the first heavy surface ships destroyed purely by air attack. Against her sister King George V she differed among other things in the arrangement of the bridge and in the anti-aircraft armament, which the model takes into account.
Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the seams and preserves the fine relief of the deck and the superstructures. Clean flash off the small parts, such as the masts, guns and equipment, so that they stay crisp. The decks and the sides of the hull stand out after spraying with an airbrush over a primer; for British wartime finishes the shades of gray of the chosen camouflage are suitable. A dark wash that brings out the rivets and panel lines will bring the model to life at the end, together with fine dry brushing of the edges. Railings and other details can be added with photo-etched sets available separately.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
